This project was for my graduating exhibition at University - Self directed Project
I wanted to work on a project that has a deeper purpose behind it rather than just nice visuals. I am someone who is concerned for our environment and wants to make a difference through my work. To make something that could motivate my viewers to switch from plastic bags to re-usables, or to buy and use a keep-cup, or even say no to a straw is a huge motivation for why I made this motion piece; and I am passionate about animating stories.
I began with the story that would engage my viewers, this short t follows the ordeal of a young female surfer that is directly affected by the ocean debris (fancy term for rubbish) and becomes marooned on an island of floating garbage, accumulated from decades of pollution. Trapped by fear from a shark that patrols the waters around the island wrapped in layers of fishing nets, she has no way back to the shore. On the island she discovers that the effects of humanity’s pollution has destroyed the eco-system and trapped the sea life within it. There is no end to the story just a message of hope that I hope inspires people to do better and better towards the planet.
